Renters

The Neutra VDL Compound was designed to accommodate three households. Therefore it was possible for the Neutra family and the office to function at the same time as part of the compound was occupied by renters. During the economic down time of the 1940's the upper floor of the west wing of the compound was rented out to Frank Wilkinson, the founder of public housing in Los Angeles, and his family. Later in the 1940's the studio apartment on the ground floor of the west wing was rented out to a Miss Martha Lovey, the sister of the Quaker lady who Neutra met in 1919 in Vienna when translating for the Quaker mission to starving children there after WWI.
