About this building

This is the historic, multi-family, live-work space of the architect Richard Neutra.

It's official name is "The Richard and Dion Neutra VDL Studio and Residences." The letters "VDL" refer to the industrialist C.H. van der Leeuw who lent Neutra the money in 1932 to build the first stage.

It was built in three stages: in 1932; in 1940; and, with Neutra's architect son Dion, in 1966.

This structure was the place where hi-tech, indoor-outdoor California Modern architecture began.

In 1990 it was bequeathed to the California State Polytechnic University Pomona College of Environmental Design.

There are drop-in, tours most Saturdays from 11 am to 3:00 pm.
